Permanent Makeup

What does permanent make-up involve?

Permanent make-up, also known as semi-permanent make-up or micropigmentation, is the process of introducing pigment to the top layers of the skin. In essence it is a form of tattoo – which is why it is sometimes known as ‘cosmetic tattooing’. Because of its lasting and natural appearance, permanent make-up can beautify or enhance existing features, such as brows, eyes and lips, adding colour and definition in a subtle yet precise way.

I am passionate about permanent make-up. Having worked with respected artists all over the world I have been able to bring unique, cutting-edge techniques back to the UK, and now train others using the latest digital machine on the market, and needle configurations using the latest needles called the NANO Needle. This creates stunning super fine hair strokes and crisp lines – for exquisite brows, luscious liner and perfectly-defined lips.

What can I expect from permanent make-up?

Permanent make-up is designed to help you to make the best of the features you already have. A common misconception is that permanent make-up should drastically alter or change your appearance. Permanent make-up application undoubtedly makes a difference aesthetically – but it should be a subtle enhancement, not an obvious change.

What’s the procedure? What can I expect?

Firstly we will always ascertain your objectives and preferences during an initial consultation. This is really important, as it’s paramount that you are happy and comfortable with the procedure, and are confident that it is going to achieve your desired effect. A design will be traced for you to see before the treatment begins, so you can clearly see how the finished result will look. Once the design has been confirmed, a treatment date can be set and patch test carried out.

During a permanent make-up procedure pigment is implanted into the dermal layer of the skin using a very fine needle. Your procedure may take up to an hour or two hours overall depending on the type of design being applied. There will be some discomfort – but anaesthetic cream is applied to reduce any pain you would normally experience.

You can expect your design to be a little darker than it will eventually appear immediately following treatment. Once healed your permanent make-up design will be slightly paler than the original colour (30-50%) you’ll see immediately following application. Permanent make-up also naturally fades over time, so you’ll need to come back for a follow-up appointment and regular top-ups annually. There are also some very important steps to be followed both prior to and after your permanent make-up procedure takes place. All good practitioners will ensure that you’re fully aware of these so that you can schedule your appointment appropriately.

Is permanent make-up for me?

There are many different reasons why clients opt for permanent make-up procedures. Most often it’s a combination of convenience and enhanced confidence – as permanent make-up designs serve as a template for traditional make-up. This can drastically reduce the time you spend getting ready in the morning, and is great for holidays, work-outs and other occasions and activities for which you wouldn’t normally wear make-up.

Permanent make-up also offers cosmetic improvement – and whilst this should be natural it can still have a noticeably positive impact. Eyeliner can define the eyes for example making them appear larger, whilst the brows (one of the key features of the face) can be enhanced to frame and realign the face. Often this can achieve a lifting, anti-ageing or redefining effect.

It’s good to learn as much as you can before you make a decision to opt for permanent make-up. If you’d like further information about permanent make-up with me, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
